Versatility on Display

From hosting live concerts to drive-in movie screenings, Sands Expo and Convention Centre is a space for all.

South Korean hip-hop group EPIK HIGH staged their concert at Sands Grand Ballroom to adoring fans on 9 July 2022

Sands Expo and Convention Centre’s versatility has seen its limits pushed in recent events. Guests from different backgrounds have also returned, filling its halls with dialogue and conversations. In a short span of two weeks, Sands Expo hosted two very different events – a live concert and a movie drive-in.

On 9 July, Sands Grand Ballroom was converted into a concert venue where 2,000 adoring fans caught the electrifying performance of South Korean hip-hop group, EPIK HIGH. To ensure everyone’s safety, vaccination checks in line with the latest safe management measures for events were conducted prior the concert. But it did not dampen the spirits of concert-goers, for the air was brimming with an air of electric energy and excitement. A dizzying array of lights illuminated the pitch-black stage when it was showtime, heralding the start of an epic night to come.

The Halls at Sands Expo and Convention Centre transformed into an indoor drive-in cinema for Porsche enthusiasts

Right over at the exhibition Halls B and C, passionate Porsche enthusiasts converged at Sands Expo and Convention Centre to celebrate their common love for sports cars and movies for a two-day exclusive Sportscar Together Day that took place from 23 – 24 June 2022. Guests turned heads as they arrived in their sleek rides for the event. For the first time, close to 10,000 sqm of expo space was transformed into a retro drive-in cinema where guests drove their cars right into the hall. Screens hovered above ground, expertly hoisted by the MICE team, were installed for a better viewing experience.

For a complete cinema-going experience, a food container truck also dished out a menu of cinema-friendly food prepared by Sands Expo’s culinary team, featuring crowd favourites such as tacos, nachos, popcorn and sliders. The team was also ready to serve piping hot beverages such as café lattes, americanos, and mochas for guests.

Delectable snacks to accompany the movie screening at Sportscar Together Day

The guests were treated to a screening of Bad Boys for Life, starring Will Smith, whose character drives a Porsche 911 Carrera 4S through the streets of Miami. A collection of old and new Porsche sports cars, including a Porsche 356 and Porsche 911 Speedster, were also on display at the hall for all to admire. The MICE team also assisted with a risk assessment and double checked the oil tanks of every car on display to ensure they were emptied, reducing the potential of any fire risk.

Convention centres are often associated with conferences and meetings with serious businessmen in suits. EPIK HIGH IS HERE and Porsche’s Sportscar Together Day proved otherwise. These events set an example of how an ideal venue offers the flexibility and expertise to put customer experience at the forefront of their events.
