SPECIAL EVENT

Messages from the Future

Imagine receiving a postcard from decades into the future. What kind of world would it speak of? What imaginative visions does it hold?

In this participatory activity, dreamers of all ages are invited to share messages from their future selves on postcards. Be it through writing, drawing, or collaging, visitors are invited to respond to prompts which ask them to imagine the world they hope to live in, and how they might begin to shape it.

The postcards will come together in an evolving participatory installation of futures that grows with each visitor’s contribution. Embodying the collaborative nature of worldbuilding, this display draws visitors to read and respond to a stranger’s vision of the future, creating an open space for intergenerational dialogue.

Messages from the Future is playful, reflective and above all, inclusive — it celebrates a future that has a place for everyone to leave their mark on.

A companion to the exhibition Another World Is Possible, this activity extends an opportunity for visitors to engage in their own acts of worldbuilding beyond the gallery. Come pause, dream and leave a message for the world to come!

About Futures Festival: Worlds in the Making

Futures Festival: Worlds in the Making is an invitation to hold the future open. It brings together the community in a shared exploration of plural worlds emerging from the equator — worlds that are generous, resilient and already in the making.See more

Against the grain of dystopian imaginaries, the festival celebrates futures that are relational and cautiously hopeful. Drawing from the themes of Another World Is Possible exhibition, it foregrounds imagination as a form of care, generosity as a guiding practice, and attentive co-creationas a foundation for how we shape worlds together.

Through conversations, art and participatory experiences, the festival becomes a living constellation of ideas and experiences: a space to experiment with new ways of thinking, sensing and making together. World-making is tangible, fragile and powerful, unfolding through the collective curiosity and care of everyone present.

Futures Festival unfolds across four interconnected streams, each offering a unique way to explore, imagine and shape the futures we inhabit. Whether through dialogue, sound, cinema or participation, there is a path for every curiosity.

About Another World Is Possible

Another World Is Possible is an exhibition on the future, exploring the practice of world-building across cinema, architecture, design, and speculative fiction.See more

The exhibition reflects a distinctly Singaporean approach to the future, one shaped by long-term thinking, environmental pragmatism, and an ethic of collective responsibility. In contrast to the dystopian tone common in Western popular culture, Singapore treats the future as something to be designed, debated, and actively constructed. This sensibility is woven through the exhibition’s architecture, design, and art—from WOHA’s biodiverse vertical cities to Pomeroy Studio’s floating farms.

Showcasing the visionary work of filmmaker and speculative architect Liam Young, alongside regional and international creatives such as Björk, Torlarp Larpjaroensook, Osborne Macharia, Ong Kian Peng, Jakob Kudsk Steensen, Ming Wong, and more, Another World Is Possible proposes alternative ways of living, thinking, and being, and adopts a more hopeful approach to the future.

Another World Is Possible is co-curated by ArtScience Museum and Liam Young. This exhibition is presented in partnership with ACMI, Melbourne, Australia, and is a sequel to the exhibition, The Future and Other Fictions, originally curated and developed by ACMI. Another World Is Possible is part of ArtScience Museum’s SG60 season, celebrating Singapore’s 60th anniversary. It is a key event of Singapore Design Week 2025, and is sponsored by the DesignSingapore Council.
