DRIVING IMPACT

Standing in solidarity with Singapore

While COVID-19 continues to impact communities and livelihoods of many across the world, the spirit of giving prevails at Marina Bay Sands. We mobilised our Team Members and our resources as much as we could to help vulnerable communities while continuing to fulfil our obligations to our long-term Singaporean partners.

  • Feb 2020 – Responding to the urgent lack of food donations,160 Team Members packed 2,000 bundles of essential food items which were delivered to elderly beneficiaries and vulnerable families supported by Food from the Heart and The Food Bank Singapore.
  • Apr 2020 – 15,000 kg of produce which included vegetables, fruits and eggs from Marina Bay Sands’ restaurants were donated pre-Circuit Breaker to The Food Bank Singapore.
  • Apr to Jun 2020 – The integrated resort’s iconic hotel towers, the Sands SkyPark and ArtScience Museum were lit up every night in a show of support for Singapore. The property turned blue every Thursday in the month of May to thank frontline workers and raise awareness on the importance of mental well-being.
  • May 2020 & Sep 2020 - During the Circuit Breaker period, 50 Team Members and their families packed 5,000 care kits in the safety of their homes, which were distributed to the migrant worker community. In September, another 300 Team Members put together 10,000 care kits over 24 hours for migrant workers and low-income families.
  • 156,000 pieces of surgical masks were donated to non-profits to help safeguard the community against the pandemic and 88 units of blood were donated by our Team Members to help the local blood bank.
Food Donations

15,000 kg of produce was donated to vulnerable communities to alleviate food insecurity concerns during COVID-19.

Narrowing social gaps

Our corporate giving strategy has always focused on supporting initiatives or programmes that need a boost to drive positive change to vulnerable communities in Singapore. We have been humbled by the commitment of our long-term community partners and the long-lasting impact such work has had on those in need.

  • Through AWWA, we were able to help over 117 financially vulnerable families with temporary accommodation and social work intervention. We also had the opportunity to support its soon-to-be-opened Adult Disability Home, which will provide a holistic suite of services to ensure the well-being of clients with multiple disabilities of high to moderate dependency.
  • We assisted the Cerebral Palsy Alliance of Singapore (CPAS) to procure a special hydraulic bus equipped with dedicated wheelchair spaces, and contributed to the organisation’s Assistive Technology Hub for the purchase of additional physiotherapy equipment which enables CPAS to better serve its beneficiaries.
  • Marina Bay Sands began supporting Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN) in 2013, by refurbishing APSN Katong School's training kitchens. Every year, over 200 F&B students receive training in this new facility.
  • As a co-organiser of the Community Chest Heartstrings Walk and Vertical Marathon, we were able to help Community Chest fundraise for the stable of social service organisations since 2011.
AWWA

In addition to financially supporting AWWA's Transitional Shelter and Adult Disability Home, our Team Members helped to clean up homes for beneficiaries to ensure a clean environment to reside in.

Building a vibrant arts scene in Singapore

Marina Bay Sands’ architecture has been imbued with art right from the design-and-build stage of the property. Our museum and theatre have brought numerous award-winning exhibitions and shows to Singapore. For example, ArtScience Museum’s façade has been brilliantly lit with multiple artistic projections, including the annual Marina Bay Singapore Countdown which features artwork created by the local community. Marina Bay Sands is proud to support local artists and the art landscape through our cultural philanthropy and unique resources.

  • In 2014, our donation of S$750,000 towards the Public Art Trust, spearheaded by the National Arts Council, helped make art an integral part of Singapore’s cityscape, add vibrancy and bring art closer to Singaporeans.
  • Since 2017, we have also supported Art Outreach Singapore’s IMPART Awards, which recognises and rewards promising emerging artists and curators in their careers and aims to build awareness and appreciation of local art.
  • We also contribute to the i Light Singapore festival, Asia’s leading sustainable light festival held in Marina Bay, to bring innovative light art installations for Singaporeans to enjoy at the Marina Bay area.
